In 1992, an energetic group of 30 people met to form a society for the appreciation, preservation, and promotion of Dixieland and Ragtime Jazz in Greater Rochester. The organization became known as The Flower City Jazz Society (FCJS) and now boasts of a membership of over 300. FCJS holds concerts on the 3rd Monday of every month at the Green Lantern Inn located at One East Church Street, Fairport, New York 14450. This facility is handicap-accessible. The concerts begin at 6:30 PM and end at 9:30 PM. (There is a social hour from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM with a cash bar.) Musical entertainment is generally provided by bands from Central and Western New York or from nearby Ontario, Canada. However, on occasion we are entertained with bands from anywhere in the USA. Visiting professional musicians are often invited to sit in with the band during the last set, making for some spirited and swinging jam sessions. The programs always include danceable tunes from the 40’s and the 50's.
